Content Policy

Last updated 2026-08-21

This page covers what we do when someone reports content on Mapomancy — copyright infringement under US law, and illegal content generally for EU/EEA users under the Digital Services Act (DSA).

Copyright — DMCA notice and takedown

If you believe content uploaded to Mapomancy infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated agent:

TODO(owner): designated DMCA agent — name, address, phone and email,

exactly as registered with the US Copyright Office. Registration

costs $6 and must be completed before this section can be published with

real details; until then this is a placeholder and Mapomancy has no

DMCA safe-harbor protection.

Your notice must include, in writing:

  1. A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or someone

authorized to act on their behalf.

  1. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to be infringed.
  2. Identification of the material you claim is infringing, with enough

detail for us to locate it.

  1. Your contact information (address, phone, email).
  2. A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized

by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.

  1. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in the

notice is accurate and that you're authorized to act for the copyright owner.

On receiving a valid notice we remove or disable access to the material and notify the uploader. The uploader can send a counter-notice if they believe the material was removed in error; if they do, and the original complainant doesn't file a lawsuit within the statutory window, we restore the content.

Repeat infringers

We terminate the accounts of users who are the subject of repeated valid infringement notices. There's no fixed number that triggers this automatically for a small service like ours — each case is reviewed, but a pattern of valid notices against one account ends that account.

Illegal content — EU/EEA users (DSA)

If you're in the EU or EEA and want to report content you believe is illegal (not limited to copyright), email report@mapomancy.com. This is our Art. 11/12 point of contact and notice-and-action address.

Your notice should include:

  • the specific location of the content (a map id, a link, or another way to

find it);

  • why you believe it's illegal, with reference to the law you believe it

violates;

  • your contact information, so we can follow up.

We review every notice with a human, and we tell the notifier what we decided and why, in plain language.

What we remove

Illegal content, content that infringes someone else's copyright once we've verified a valid notice, and content that breaks the Terms of Service's acceptable-use rules.
